How to delete your account
Option A: from the Penso app (Android or iOS)
- Open the Penso app and sign in with the account you want to delete.
- Go to the Más (More) tab and tap your name at the bottom of the screen to open Perfil (Profile).
- Under Zona de riesgo (Danger zone), tap Eliminar cuenta (Delete account).
- Type ELIMINAR to confirm. If your account has a password, enter it too.
- Tap Eliminar mi cuenta (Delete my account). Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
If you sign in with Google or Apple and the app asks you to sign in again, sign out, sign back in and repeat the steps. This is a security measure.
Option B: by email
- Write to [email protected] from the email address you used to sign up for Penso.
- Use “Delete my account” as the subject. You don't need to explain why.
- We will confirm by email and delete your account within 30 days.
We will never ask for your password or your bank details to do this. If you write from a different address, we may ask you to confirm the account is yours. The Penso web app does not have a delete account button yet.
Which data is deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently delete, right away:
- Your account and profile: name, email, encrypted password, Google or Apple sign-in, open sessions and two-step verification.
- Your finances: accounts, balances, transactions, installments, transfers, categories, tags and categorization rules.
- Trash and files you uploaded: the copies of transactions you had deleted, and the bank statement files and receipt photos.
- Your planning: budgets, savings goals, debts, receivables, subscriptions, trips, investments and your net worth history.
- Bank connections: the links to your bank (Plaid or direct connection), the encrypted credentials and tokens, and the sync history.
- Integrations: the Telegram bot, the AI connectors you authorized, linked devices and notifications.
- Your shared space: the people you invited lose access and pending invitations are deleted.
- Settings: preferences, alerts and privacy settings.
Which data is kept and for how long
Some data is not deleted at the same moment:
- Security log: a record of the actions taken in your account (what was done and when, with the account email), including the record that you deleted it. We keep it as long as needed to prevent fraud, resolve claims and comply with legal obligations.
- App usage recording: usage records, which were already masked, are deleted automatically within 30 days.
- Encrypted backups: some data may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period before being permanently deleted.
- Legal obligations: if a law requires us to keep some data for longer, we keep it only for the period it requires.
If you share a space
If you own a shared space, deleting your account deletes the whole space and all its data, including for the people you invited.
If you are a member of someone else's space, only your access is removed. That space's data belongs to its owner and is kept, including the transactions you recorded there.
If you only want to delete part of your information
You don't need to delete your account. From the app or the web you can delete transactions, accounts, categories, budgets, debts, goals, subscriptions and investments one by one, disconnect a bank or turn off usage recording in Configuración → Privacidad (Settings → Privacy). Transactions you delete go to the trash, where you can restore them.
Before deleting your account you can download a backup with all your data from the web, in Configuración → Respaldo (Settings → Backup).
